Questions about Usage and Purchasing
eSIM is a service that allows you to access mobile networks without a physical SIM card.
The main difference with physical SIM cards is that users can complete the transaction entirely online, without the need to purchase and receive a physical card. *Only eSIM-enabled smartphones can use this service.
You cannot make calls or send SMS.
SIM-free and eSIM-compatible devices are available.
*Dial "*#06#" and if the EID number is displayed, the device is eSIM compatible.
*You can check if the model is SIM-free by following the steps below.
・For iPhone users:
Go to Settings > General > About > SIM Lock
If it says "No SIM Restrictions", your device is SIM-free. If it says "SIM Locked", your device is SIM-locked and you'll need to unlock it before you can use the eSIM.
・For Android users:
(Steps may vary depending on your phone manufacturer)
Go to Settings > About device > SIM card status > SIM lock
If it says "No SIM restriction" or "SIM allowed", your phone is SIM-free.
You can order it before or after you arrive in Japan, but please note that your data plan will start the moment you enter the serial code and install the eSIM.
For iPhone users: Go to Settings > Cellular. You'll see your eSIM (a 14-digit number starting with 0200) on the page. For Android users: Go to Settings > SIM Card Settings. Your eSIM will be listed under the eSIM section.
*Steps may vary depending on your device and software version.
